Lucasfilm has been planning for years to bring back Ewan McGregor’s performance as Obi-Wan from the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy. The Disney+ series is the result of all those plans. At first, the actor supposed to star in a movie by Stephen Daldry called “The Hours” that would stand on its own. After “Solo: A Star Wars Story” failed at the box office in 2018, Lucasfilm stopped making standalone movies and started making shows for Disney+. “The Mandalorian’s” huge success gave people hope that McGregor would wear Obi-robe Wan’s again in a streaming show.

At the D23 Expo in August 2019, the actor finally confirmed the news, which got much attention. However, a 2020 shoot with “The Mandalorian” director Deborah Chow put off because the original head writer. Hossein Amini (“The Alienist”), left the production. After Joby Harold (“Army of the Dead”) was hired to take over. The pandemic caused the six-episode series to be pushed back again. In February, Disney finally said that the show would start on Disney+ on May 25, 2022. In late March, Disney changed the date to May 27, 2022.
