The BMW i3 is no longer being made; 250 000 were made.

The BMW i3/BMW i3s no longer being made. Over eight and a half years, 250,000 of these cars made.

The BMW i3 made at the BMW Group plant in Leipzig, Germany, and sold in more than 74 countries worldwide.

It was a first-of-its-kind model for the group. It was the first battery-electric series model from BMW. One of the first all-electric models that bought independently.

The BMW i3 was unique because it had a carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) passenger cell and an aluminum chassis.

In addition to the 100% electric i3/i3s (sporty version), the company also sold an i3/i3s REx (range-extender version) with a small gasoline engine that could be used in an emergency. The first version of the car had a 21.6 kWh battery that only used for 18.8 kWh. This later changed to a 33.2 kWh battery that used for 27.2 kWh. A 42.2 kWh battery that could go up to 307 km (191 miles) on WLTP.

BMW says that with 250,000 units sold around the world. It is also the most successful premium compact electric vehicle in the world.

The HomeRun Edition trim on a BMW i3s:

High-quality Suite interior design, which includes Vernasca Dark Truffle leather upholstery, a leather instrument panel, a leather steering wheel with galvanized trim, a Carum Grey roof lining, Ambient lighting, and the welcome light.

Other options include heated seats, comfort access, an alarm system, Real-Time Traffic Information, Concierge Service, Park Distance Control, and a rear view camera.

Also included are the Comfort package and Driving Assistant Plus, the Professional navigation system, the phone with wireless charging. The Harman Kardon hi-fi speaker system, and online entertainment with a flat rate for music.

Some EV parts from the BMW i3/i3s, like battery modules or drive units, also used in other EVs. In particular, the MINI Cooper SE has parted with e-drive (although in the front-wheel-drive configuration). There are also battery modules in the German postal service’s Streetscooter vans, Turkey’s Karsan electric buses, and Torqeedo electric motorboats.

The BMW Group Plant Leipzig will be the first BMW Group factory to make both BMW and MINI cars. This will happen when the next-generation fully electric MINI Countryman goes on sale next year.
