July brought the Mumbai Monsoon, a rainy season that never stops. The key to the Maruti Suzuki Celerio landed on my desk just as I wondered why I had to get a raincoat and other rain gear immediately. This is the top-of-the-line ZXI Plus, painted “caffeine brown” with an automatic transmission. As for the price, it costs about Rs 8.15 lakh, on-road Mumbai, for what we have here. Details and Functions
The second generation of the Celerio moved to the same Heartect platform as the rest of its siblings. Along with getting bigger, it also has a new look. Plus, it has a new engine and many features in this fully loaded trim, which is also a first. In terms of design, our Celerio stands out because of its big headlight, tall, boyish stance. It dark blue paint over blacked-out alloy wheels. I love how it looks, which is different from any of its siblings and has its own style.

But you can’t say the same about the inside. The entire cabin is taken from the current generation of the Wagon R, which also spent a lot of time in the Stoptechy garage. So, things like the high-mounted infotainment screen, the sizeable circular-dialed driver’s display with a monochromatic round digital display, and the steering and seats. The AC controls are all the same as in the Wagon R. But what’s new is the design of the gear lever, which looks and feels much more modern and high-end.Celerio ZXI Plus AMT.
Also, the cabin is all black, except for a few silver accents that break up the monotony. On the other hand, the switches for the windows and locks move to the middle console below the screen. Then, the buttons for the back door windows are behind the handbrake, between the two front seats, and can be hard to reach. This is an unnecessary hassle.
As for the features, our Celerio ZXI Plus has controls on the steering wheel, a driver’s seat that can be adjusted for height, a button to start and stop the engine, keyless entry, ORVMs that can be adjusted electrically and automatically fold, a tachometer, and front fog lamps. Standard safety features include dual front airbags, ABS, a rear parking sensor, and child locks for the rear doors. Also, the SmartPlay Studio touchscreen is 7 inches and can connect to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It has four speakers. There is no parking camera in the back, though. Celerio ZXI Plus AMT.
We still think Maruti could have put the Wagon R’s K12 1.2-liter engine into the new Celerio. But the Celerio’s first engine, the K10C, is making a solid case. It has a three-cylinder engine with dual-jet, dual-VVT technology. An auto start/stop feature that is the first of its kind. Also, the ARAI says that it is the most fuel-efficient engine, with a claim of 26kmpl. The engine makes 66bhp and 89Nm and is paired with a five-speed automatic transmission from Maruti.
